In this chapter, Jesus is at dinner with Pharisees.
How sad Jesus must have been to know these men who had at one time given their lives to God, but had become so caught up in the laws of Moses that all they did was worry about being caught and about catching others in breaking the law. They no longer looked to God for salvation. They became too busy to attend the feast of the Lord.
Jesus tried to explain to them that it was important for them to show humility.
In Luke 14:11, He says, “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
I’ve learned that I need to be careful not to assume that I’m fit for the kingdom if I don’t commit major sins.
We all need to repent.
I’ve also learned that repentance is more about learning to rely on and follow Jesus Christ than it is apologizing for and being forgiven of sin, although that’s part of it.
Repentance is a change of heart even more than a change of action. 💞
When our hearts are changed, we’ll no longer have a desire to sin.
We’ll still make mistakes, but the posture of our hearts is most important.
God invites even the least of us to His table.
