After the women had found the tomb empty and heard the angels tell them that Jesus had risen, they went to tell the disciples what had happened.
But they didn’t believe.
A few went to the tomb and found that it was empty, but they didn’t understand that Jesus had risen.
It seemed too impossible.
That same day, two disciples were walking and talking about what the women had said. A man came to join them as they walked. The man asked them why they were so sad.
They told him about Jesus and how He had been crucified and that women had found the tomb empty. They explained that the women said they’d seen angels who told them that Jesus was alive.
The man asked why they hadn’t believed. He continued and expounded the scriptures about the Messiah. The disciples asked the man to stay and eat with them.
It wasn’t until the man took bread, blessed it, and broke it to give it to them that they realized that this man they had been walking and talking with was Jesus.
Why hadn’t they recognized Him before then?
I was thinking about this part of the story and wondered how many times Jesus walks with us and we don’t realize it.
I know I’ve looked back and seen the hand of God in my life, but at the time, I was unaware of it.
Where has God been in your story, and you didn’t realize it?
