A large stone had been rolled over the opening of the tomb where the body of Jesus had been laid.
Pilate sent guards to make sure no one opened the tomb.
Early on Sunday morning, before dawn, angels appeared at the tomb.
The guards were afraid and “became as dead men,” fainting with fear.
The angels rolled the stone away.
Soon, a group of women, including Mary Magdalene and another Mary, came to the tomb.
They saw the stone rolled away.
The tomb was empty.
“He is not here: for he is risen.” (Matthew 28:6)
Jesus had overcome death.
He lives.
Most of our chapters this week talk about what happened on that beautiful Resurrection Morning. We’ll save the rest of the story for later.
