Some Jews were persecuting Jesus for healing on the Sabbath day.
Jesus told them He was doing the work of His Father.
That made the Jews even more angry.
In this chapter, Jesus gives a beautiful testimony of and a description of His relationship with the Father.
The Father loves the Son and shows Him what to do. Jesus does the things He sees the Father do. (John 5:19-20)
Those who honor the Son also honor the Father. Those who don’t honor the Son don’t honor the Father. (John 5:23)
He who hears the words of Christ and believes in the Father who sent the Son will have everlasting life. (John 5:24)
The Father gives authority to the Son to execute judgment. Jesus’s judgment is just because He seeks not his own will, but the Father’s. (John 5:27, 30)
John the Baptist bore testimony that Jesus is the Son of God, and Jesus bears testimony of the Father. The scriptures also testify of Jesus Christ. (John 5:32-33, 39)
The works which the Father gave Jesus to finish, the works He did, bear witness of Him as the Son of God, and that the Father sent Him. (John 5:36)
