From today’s Bible reading: Matthew 4
One of my favorite Bible stories is when Jesus calls Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow Him.
It’s briefly mentioned in Matthew 4, but it goes into more detail in Luke 5.
Simon and his friends had been fishing all night but hadn’t caught anything. In the morning, Jesus asked Simon if he could teach the people from his ship. When Jesus was finished teaching, he told Simon to cast his nets again. Simon tried to explain that they hadn’t caught anything the night before but did as Jesus asked. They caught so many fish that the nets were breaking.
Jesus told them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
“And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.” Matthew 4:19-20
I love this because I am amazed that they would just up and leave immediately to follow Him. Jesus saw in them what they couldn’t yet see, and they trusted Him enough to leave everything behind.
Their lives wouldn’t be easy. But they would see more miracles than most people on earth ever would. And they would get to walk with the Son of God.
His words are for us, too, “Follow me”.
What does Jesus see in me? What miracles will I see if I follow Him and trust Him?
What miracles have you seen?
