From today’s Bible reading: Mark 5
This is one of my favorite Bible stories.
A woman was shunned and exiled because to others she wasn’t clean enough.
For years she had spent all her money on physicians, but nothing helped.
When she heard Jesus was coming, she knew if she could just get close enough to touch His clothes she would be healed.
Jesus was on His way to save a little girl who was near death, and time was of the essence.
A crowd was following Him.
The woman made her way through the crowd and got close enough to catch the hem of His clothes.
She immediately felt that she had been made whole.
Although He was hurrying to see the young girl, Jesus stopped, asking, “Who touched me?”
Surely many people had touched Him as He walked through the crowd.
But Jesus knew that something miraculous had just happened.
The woman was afraid but fell at Jesus’ feet, telling Him what had happened – she had been healed.
He said to her, “Daughter, thy faith hath made the whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” (Mark 5:34)
He didn’t just heal her. Jesus noticed her. He loved her. He brought her peace.
We can come close enough to Jesus to feel noticed, loved, and find His peace in our lives, too.
