In this chapter, Jesus is explaining to His disciples what is about to happen. It’s not clear to them at the time exactly what will occur, but they know Jesus will soon be leaving them for a time.
He tells them, “ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.”
I love this verse: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Whatever tribulation you’re going through, no matter your struggles or pains, we can take courage and comfort in the words of Christ and know that He has descended below all and risen triumphantly.
He knows how we feel but also knows the glorious future that awaits if we are faithful to Him.
Our suffering will be but a small moment, and we can take comfort in the promises of Jesus.
Be of good cheer.
Your sorrow shall be turned to joy.
