In Matthew 23, Jesus is speaking to the scribes and Pharisees.
He’s frustrated with their pride and wickedness.
He calls them blind guides and hypocrites.
He warns them of the consequences of killing the prophets.
He tells them that they work to make themselves appear good on the outside, but on the inside, they are full of greed.
Even still, He loves them and says, “how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathered her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”
Jesus wants to gather us and protect us.
But we have to let go of pride and let Him gather us.
